Carta de Rosalina

Bienvenidos al primer número de Hey! by Hanna's Universe

Querida familia:

Llévalo a casa

¿Qué me sostuvo?

¿Cómo acompañas a tu familia mientras emprendes?

Hey! by Hanna's Universe · Número 113

Hey! by Hanna's Universe · Número 114

A letter from Rosalina

Welcome to the first issue of Hey! by Hanna's Universe

Dear family,

Today our magazine is born, and I am so glad it is in your hands. Every month you will find something here for you, something for your children's teacher and something for them: a comic to read together and a coloring page to enjoy with crayons at the kitchen table.

This month I am launching my book Equip Your Kids for Life, so this month's theme is independence: those small tasks our children can already do on their own. Start with just one. Give them time. Watch them do it.

Print the kids' pages, share the magazine with another mom and tell me how it goes. I will be here again next month.

With love, Rosalina

Let them try: three minutes that build independence

Tomorrow morning, when your child wants to tie their own shoes, give them three minutes. In those minutes they try, slip, try again and discover that their hands can do it.

By Rosalina Rangel · author of Equip Your Kids for Life

Choose one task. One is enough this week: putting on shoes, pouring cereal, putting toys away or packing the backpack. Tell them with joy: “From today on, this is your job, and I'm right here with you.”

Stay close with still hands. Sit beside them and watch them work. If they ask for help, ask first: “What do you think comes next?” Very often the answer is already in them.

Celebrate the effort. Tell them what you saw: “You tried three times and you did it.” That sentence teaches them that perseverance bears fruit, and they will remember it the next time something feels hard.

Plan the time. Get up ten minutes earlier. With time to spare, patience comes easily and the morning becomes a moment to learn together.

For this week

  • Choose a task and tell them on Sunday night.
  • Give them three minutes every morning.
  • Ask “what comes next?” before helping.
  • Praise the effort with specific words.
  • On Saturday, tell Dad or Grandma what they learned.
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.Proverbs 22:6 · KJV

Every small task your child learns today is a tool they will carry for life. This is how we equip a child: with patience, one day at a time.

Backpack ready: a five-step classroom routine

The last ten minutes of the day teach order, responsibility and teamwork. Turn dismissal into a routine your students carry out on their own.

  1. Post the list where everyone can see it.Draw what goes in the backpack on a poster: notebook, pencils, lunch box, water bottle and sweater. With pictures, even early readers can follow it.
  2. Always use the same signal.A short song announces that the routine is starting. By the second week, the children move on their own when they hear it.
  3. Check in pairs. Each child checks a partner's backpack against the list. They learn to help with respect.
  4. Leave the space ready.Chairs up, tables clean and pencils in their box. The classroom is ready for tomorrow.
  5. Close with one sentence. Each child finishes “Today I learned…” out loud before walking out the door.

Give every role a name

The list keeper, the tidy captain, the song leader. Rotate them every Monday so everyone gets a turn at each job.

Send it home

Send the same printed list to families. When they pack the backpack the night before with the same pictures, the child practices the routine twice a day.

In this issue, the comic on page 16 tells this very story. Read it with your students before starting the routine.

A verse for the fridge door

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

Philippians 4:13 · KJV

Write it together. Your child decorates a card and you write the verse. Put it on the fridge door, at their eye level.

Read it every morning. Before you leave, you start the verse and they finish it. In a week they will know it by heart.

Use it when something is hard. When your child gets stuck on a task, remind them softly: “I can do all things…” God gives them strength to try again.

A prayer to say together

Father God, thank you for my hands and for my mind that learns. Help me try again when something is hard. You are with me at school, at home and on the way. In Jesus' name, amen.

The “I can” jar

Every time your child learns something new, write it on a slip of paper and put it in a jar. On Sunday, read all the slips together and thank God for each one.

Hey! by Hanna's Universe · Issue 18
Women with purpose · The interview

Every month, a woman in business tells us her story: what moved her to begin, what she learned along the way and the faith that held her up.

How did your business begin?

My business began as a dream: a dream of being independent, of having more freedom and not limiting my income to a salary, and the dream of being a present mom.

What was your hardest moment, and what held you up?

My hardest moment was starting, because I had two jobs, one of them eight or nine hours a day, full time, and I had to start in my apartment, in one room, with no clients and no name. Starting completely from scratch, with lots of nerves and lots of doubts. What held me up? I always say that God is my foundation and the one who holds me up, along with faith in what I knew I was capable of.

What place does faith have in your work?

I feel faith is absolutely essential, because by faith I believe every day that clients are going to come and recommend me. I always say: may it be God working through me. But I also always do things from the heart, to get the best results.

How do you care for your family while running your business?

Running my business lets me manage my own schedule and be a present mom, be there for my son, especially now, at this stage when he is still such a little baby and needs so much. My husband and I take turns caring for the baby, so he is always with one of us, and that is very special to me, very important.

What would you tell a woman who is about to begin?

To begin, to get started. That it is scary, that it isn’t easy, it isn’t a straight road, it has highs and lows, but that everything you do from the heart, with passion, with respect and with a sense of calling, pays off, no matter what. You need a lot of faith, a lot of perseverance, a lot of discipline. And you have to start, because by starting is how you learn, and by making mistakes too: every time we make a mistake is one more way we learn how to do things. So, go for it.

The Secrets of the Attic

Chapter 1 · Mrs. Smith's Notebook

Part 1 of 4

By Rosalina Rangel

Illustration: Hanna climbs the spiral staircase holding the golden key, followed by Michiko, Sagu and Dogui; and the four friends open a trunk where an old notebook glows.

The new house still smelled of fresh paint and dreams come true. The living room walls were almost bare, and the cardboard boxes were piled up into little mountains on the wooden floor.

In her hand, Hanna held the golden key she had just found on the lintel of the spiral staircase. The temptation to climb up to the forbidden attic was enormous, but before taking a wrong step, she looked at her three dear friends: Michiko, Dogui and Sagu.

“You shouldn’t go up,” Michiko warned, crossing her arms with her usual seriousness. “Mom was very clear. The rule is to wait until the space has been checked for safety. Breaking a rule behind her back is not right.”

Dogui, on the other hand, was wagging his tail with shining eyes, peeking over the first step:

“But it smells like adventure, like old stories! What if they need us up there?”

Hanna stopped, feeling the struggle in her chest. She knew Michiko was right about respect, but her curiosity was burning. That was when Sagu, the gentle little bunny of the group, stepped between the two, softly moving his long ears. His presence was the perfect balance: neither rigid rules alone nor careless impulse.

“Michiko is right to look after order and respect for Mom,” Sagu said in a calm voice with a peaceful smile, “but Dogui also reminds us that curiosity is the way the world invites us to learn. We don’t have to disobey, Hanna. We can do something better: go with the truth.”

Hanna blinked, feeling the tension fade away.

“Do you really think she’ll let us?” she asked hopefully.

“Asking honestly is always the right way,” Sagu answered, nodding sweetly.

Without thinking any more, Hanna ran down the stairs, crossed the living room and reached the kitchen, where Mom was finishing the cleaning.

“Mom, Mom, please… we found this golden key, and the spiral staircase leads to the attic,” Hanna begged with shining eyes, hugging her three friends. “I promise I won’t go alone, Dogui, Michiko and Sagu are coming with me. I swear, we’ll be very, very careful. Will you let us take a look?”

Mom looked at Hanna, saw the sincerity in her face and the company of her faithful friends, and gave a tender, understanding smile.

“All right, my love,” Mom said warmly, handing her a cloth. “But on one condition: take this feather duster to dust things off, and you may open only one box. No taking risks.”

“Yes! Thank you, Mommy!” Hanna cried, jumping for joy.

Back on the stairs, Sagu gave a little hop of happiness and wiggled his ears to congratulate her.

“See, Hanna? Choosing honesty instead of disobedience gives us peace in our hearts and opens doors in the best way. Now… run to the attic!” Sagu exclaimed with a knowing smile, sensing the smell of old, stored-away things and mystery floating in the air. “That dust of memories is waiting for us, there are so many secrets to discover!”

Serial novel · The Secrets of the Attic

Their hearts full of excitement, the four friends pushed open the wooden door. The attic lay in a warm half-light, full of mysterious boxes signed by the enigmatic Smith Family.

Following Mom’s rule to the letter, Hanna carefully approached just one box, the biggest and dustiest one in the corner. With the help of Dogui, who brushed aside a few cobwebs with his nose, and under the watchful eyes of Michiko and Sagu, they lifted the heavy cardboard lid.

A small cloud of sparkling dust floated in the air, lit by a ray of sunlight from the window. Inside there were no ordinary old things: there was a parade of forgotten treasures. Velvet dresses with mother-of-pearl buttons, little hand-carved wooden toys that seemed to hold laughter from another time, and sepia photographs of smiling faces looking at them from the past.

But among all of it, right in the middle, rested an object that seemed to give off a glow of its own. It was an old notebook with a worn leather spine and yellowed pages.

As soon as Hanna reached out to touch it, she felt a strange, warm current, as if the notebook itself were calling them by name from the depths of time. With trembling hands, she lifted it and opened the first page. When they saw what was written there, the eyes of Hanna, Michiko, Dogui and Sagu overflowed with complete amazement…

“This isn’t just paper…” Hanna whispered, unable to blink.
